BANDO R&D 2024 – Funded Projects

In the framework of PF FESR 2021-2027 of Tuscany Region – Action 1.1.4 Region and Development for companies, also including research organisations – presented below is the list of projects that have been funded:

AERIAL, is a project that aims to recover stone by-products through the development of a pilot plant to recycle marble sludge and produce semi-finished bio-manufactured products in the sectors of construction and furniture design.

AI4FURN, Ai 4 Furniture, intelligent furniture component configurator, is a project that aims to develop an application platform equipped with artificial intelligence technologies, to support interior design companies in the design and rapid prototyping phase of their furniture. The platform will support the work of the designer and the technical designer, enabling them to speed up the design of the new product, with the collaboration of a conversational AI system that models an image of the new product based on the inputs that are transmitted to the platform in natural language text mode.

APOLLO, cArbon-free Production prOcess of recycled plastic fLoating photovoLtaic suppOrts, is a project that aims to produce floating platforms for the construction of photovoltaic systems. It involves a series of interventions on the production system, by means of rotomoulding, of plastic products to reduce, if not eliminate, the use of fossil fuels. The aim is to produce floating platforms for photovoltaic systems on water bodies of various kinds. Solar energy will be used as primary source, using high percentages of polyethylene from recycling minimizing, if not eliminating, the use of fossil sources and virgin raw materials creating a “virtuous production cycle”.

EXO.CARE, development of an innovative hybrid exoskeleton for the physical support in the assistance to the person in RSA (assisted living facility) and domicile, the project aims to develop and test an innovative hybrid exoskeleton aimed at supporting nursing and hygiene activities for patients living in RSA (assisted living facility) and at home. A customised exoskeleton to assist the operators during patient handling up to 30kg of continuous thrust.

IGP, Singling, sorting and packaging equipment for cutlery used in canteens, restaurants and catering, is a project that aims to design and build a machine capable of singling out cutlery and sorting them. More specifically, the machine should receive at the input metal cutlery already washed, singling them, recognizing them, counting and grouping them either by subdividing them by type or, alternatively, creating pairs of types useful to the individual covered.

MIRA, Innovative Machinery for Asphalt Recovery, the project, part of the promotion of a circular economy for Italian road infrastructures, wants to define an industrial qualification path for the integral recovery of asphalt milled from the resurfacing of asphalt pavement. MIRA continues the research already carried out under the Radar project funded by PORFESR 14-20 RT. The project aims to develop a new machine for recycling asphalt milled from road maintenance.

MUTABILITY, land-/water modules made with bio-material and IoT solutions to meet the nearly zero energy standard, is an innovative project that responds to climate challenges through the development of sustainable housing solutions and amphibians, able to integrate with the territory and its ecosystem. Focusing on Massaciuccoli Lake, the project aims to create micro-urban settlements both in water (houses boat) and on land (tinyhouses), able to adapt to the climatic conditions of the project area. The land/water housing module, designed to meet the nZEB standard, stands out for its use of biomaterials and advanced technologies (IoT), contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future of housing.

RENEW ORC, development and optimization of ORC plant for the energy exploitation of low-temperature waste and biomass, this project explores innovative technical solutions and investigates the possibility of using low-GWP working fluids for ORC systems. Studies the thermodynamic properties of these fluids to maximise waste heat recovery from industrial processes. This research not only improves energy efficiency and reduces emissions but also promotes a sustainable development model based on the circular economy. The project also introduces scalable solutions to make different production sectors more sustainable.

Re.Pla.Cart, REcycled PLAstic CART, new circular and sustainable business model for the provision of cleaning services. The project proposes the development of a circular and sustainable product-service system, centred on the design of a cleaning trolley made by recycling plastic bottles. The initiative adopts a design-driven and Human-Centered Design approach, integrating environmental sustainability, ergonomics and innovation into processes. The project aims to define a new business model aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving operating conditions, contributing to the competitiveness of the services sector.

REVERSING, Regenerative Envelope for deep regeneration of School and Office buildings, the research project aims to develop a prototype of a prefabricated façade module that combines high energy performance, low environmental impact, and process innovation to deliver a high-quality product inspired by the principles of the Circular Economy.

RINASCITA, development of plastic sorting systems for Recovery and Recycling, Sustainable, Innovative Creation and Transformation of the Environment, is a project which aims to design and industrialize an innovative system for the automated separation of plastics by centrifugation based on the difference in density. The aim is to develop an efficient and economically viable machine, capable of distinguishing and separating different types of polymers from industrial processes (such as PET, HDPE, PP, PVC) without the use of chemical reagents, reducing the environmental impact and optimising material recycling.

SPARCLI, Technological development and implementation of an integrated digital platform for the crystal sector, with archive, AI customizer, 3D prototyping and XR and VR experiments, an innovative project that develops an advanced digital platform for the crystal sector, Integrating historical archiving tools, customization, rapid prototyping and immersive storytelling. Thanks to cutting-edge technologies such as AI, 3D printing, XR and VR, SPARCLI improves the design and communication performance of companies, offering an interactive and personalized user experience. The project aims to strengthen the link between business and client, simplifying the co-design process and enhancing the craft and territorial heritage of the Val d’Elsa.
