DID and Sustainable 3D Design: A Future for Local Craftsmanship

Tempus EU project

TEMPUS project – 3D Design pour le developpement durable des productiones artisanales locales.

In the competitive landscape of interior design and innovative structures, the ability to anticipate trends and train cutting-edge professionals is crucial. This is where DID stands out, actively participating in European projects aimed at shaping the future of the sector. The goal is to develop tools, methods, and training paths that stimulate competitiveness and innovation, collaborating with excellent international partners.

One of the most significant examples of this commitment is the TEMPUS – 3D Design pour le Développement Durable des Productions Artisanales Locales project.

TEMPUS: The Master’s Program Redefining Craftsmanship

Funded under the prestigious Tempus program of the European Union (2013-2017), this project has had a lasting impact. Its core was the definition of an innovative university Master’s program, specifically designed to train 3D designers capable of masterfully working with local artisanal productions.

What makes this Master’s so special is its philosophy. The training program isn’t limited to teaching the use of cutting-edge software and techniques. On the contrary, it’s founded on a deep respect for and valorization of both material and immaterial cultural heritage. This means that the trained designers can draw upon the richness of traditions and artisanal skills, combining them with the potential of 3D design to create contemporary, sustainable, and impactful products.

Innovation Meets Tradition

The approach of DID and the TEMPUS project is clear: innovation shouldn’t negate tradition, but enhance it. The integration of 3D design into local artisanal productions allows for:

  • Optimizing production processes: reducing waste and time.
  • Creating prototypes faster: facilitating iteration and experimentation.
  • Exploring new shapes and functionalities: overcoming the limitations of traditional methods.
  • Promoting sustainability: through more conscious design and the use of local materials.
  • Giving new life to craftsmanship: making it competitive in global markets.

This Master’s program trains a new generation of professionals, true bridges between past and future, capable of enhancing the excellence of local “Made In” products and projecting them into a global dimension.

DID’s Role in the Future of Design

DID’s participation in projects like TEMPUS underscores its constant commitment to promoting excellence and innovation in the design sector. Through international collaboration and investment in training, DID actively contributes to creating a future where design is not just aesthetics, but also sustainability, culture, and economic development.
