The furniture sector is undergoing a crucial transformation towards sustainability. In this context, the FLIER project (The Future of Furniture: Circular Furniture Designers for a Sustainable Industry) aims to guide the European industry towards a circular economy by strengthening the skills of furniture designers and other industry professionals.
Running for 24 months, FLIER is the result of a collaborative effort by six leading European organizations that have joined forces for a common goal: to innovate and make the furniture sector more sustainable.
FLIER Project Partners:
- AMBIT (lead partner) | Centro de Difusio Tecnologica de la Fusta i del Moble de CATA
- EFIC | European Furniture Industries Confederation
- CSM | Centro Sperimentale del Mobile e dell’Arredamento
- CLUSTER LEGNO FVG | Cluster Legno, Arredo e Sistema Casa del Friuli Venezia Giulia
- ZAVOD LESARSKI GROZD
- ATU UNIVERSITY | Atlantic Technological University
FLIER’s Objectives and Impact:
The main objective of the FLIER project is to provide furniture designers and related professionals with the new skills needed to embrace an increasingly circular design approach.
To achieve this, the FLIER partnership will focus on two main areas:
- Development of a new joint curriculum: An innovative study program will be created, entirely dedicated to the Circular Furniture Designer, designed to train the professionals of the future.
- Creation of a comprehensive online training course: An accessible online course will be made available, offering in-depth training on the practices and principles of circular design in the furniture sector.
These joint efforts will significantly support the European furniture industry. FLIER will strengthen the capabilities of industry workers, enabling them to integrate circular design into products and production processes. This will not only help European companies in their transition towards a more circular economy but also increase their competitiveness at both European and global levels.
